St Peter and St Paul,  South Petherton

St Michael’s Seavington

Seavington is a village about a mile from South Petherton.  It is actually two villages, Seavington St Michael and Seavington St Mary which adjoin each other.

The church of St Michael’s Seavington is part of the joint benefice with St Peter and St Paul South Petherton. It is a typical small English village church with a small but lively congregation. Services are held at 11.15 am every Sunday.

The church is early 14th Century Somerset Perpendicular, and the first incumbent is recorded as being appointed in 1297. The inside has been Victorianised, with the original pews replaced by pine. It has never had an organ but does have a minstrels’ gallery.

A second church in Seavington—St Mary’s— is in the care of the Wessex Branch of the Churches Conservation Trust.  Services are held there on special occasions each year.
